OceanView residents normally enjoy various live entertainment regularly at our many gathering and event venues on campus. With the current safety guidelines in place during the pandemic, our Activities department has been wonderful at bringing our residents performances via online video streaming. However this month, our ever-creative Activities staff decided to try something new by hosting mini OceanView “pop-up concerts.” Held in open spaces with limited seating and performance times, these concerts allowed our residents to enjoy live music, all while remaining safety distanced.
Our friends at Opera Maine delivered a beautiful performance under a beautifully sunny sky. Eric Peppe accompanied soprano Mary Johnston Letellier as she serenaded the audience who enjoyed the performance from their own separate tables with individually packaged refreshments.
Sally, a resident and retired professional musician, had the brilliant idea to try performing in the spacious underground garage of our Blueberry Commons buildings. Sally and her friend, John, played Luigi Boccherini’s Sonata for Two Cellos, as well as a couple Rags by contemporary American composer Bob McGrath. The large garage not only provided plenty of room for residents to spread out, but provided gorgeous reverberations similar to a cathedral!
