FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Moving to a retirement community is a big decision.
At OceanView, we want to make this process as easy as possible for you and your family. Below is a list of answers to many frequently asked questions. If you have others, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of our Sales Team.
Can I bring my dog/cat/bird?
Yes! We are a very pet friendly community. We know how important pet family members are to our residents. We do ask residents bringing their pets to follow our pet policy and to pay a small refundable deposit for each pet.
How do I find a local doctor once I move?
Your sales consultant can provide contact information for local doctors and their practices. It is a good idea to begin this outreach as soon as you know you are moving to OceanView. OceanView’s Wellness Team keeps a list of local physicians that accept Medicare that is updated regularly.
What do I do if I don’t have a car?
We provide weekly transportation to local grocery stores and other points of interest. We make transportation available for arts programming held in Portland and the surrounding area. We also provide on-campus “Concierge” transportation and have drivers available by appointment should you need a ride to a doctor or someplace not on our regular routes.
What do I do with my car in the winter?
Some residents have covered spaces, and some park outside. If you park outside, you can choose to leave your keys with our maintenance staff. They will clear off your car and make sure your spot is cleaned out when the plows arrive.
I know some communities do not allow cars in driveways overnight. Is that the case at OceanView?
No. Cars in your driveway are just fine. We just ask that you move it to a remote lot on campus prior to a snow storm so plowing and cleanup can occur without any issues.
Are there storage areas on the campus or nearby?
Yes, both! We do have limited storage space on our basement level of the Main Lodge and keep a short waiting list for those spots for apartment residents. Check with us if you are looking for additional storage space. Each cubby is approximately 4’ wide, 8’ high (to the ceiling), and 8’ deep.
There are also reputable storage companies within an easy 5-mile radius of the campus.
Can I have family visit and stay with me?
Absolutely! We ask that you let us know if anyone will be staying more than a just a couple of nights, and please be sure they park in guest parking spots. If a friend or family member is planning to be with you for more than a couple of weeks, please let us know.
Is political signage allowed on campus?
Political signage is not allowed on our campus. We want all residents to feel comfortable in their homes and have found that political signage (and any extraneous outdoor decorations) can be off-putting for neighbors.
What is the minimum age for residents of OceanView’s Independent Living?
The minimum age at our retirement community is 55 for an individual; if there are two people in a residence, one of them must be at least 55.
How long is the wait list at OceanView if I sign up now?
While we can’t promise an exact timetable, we believe that in most instances the wait may be four years or more for existing residences. Or, you can set a more defined retirement timeline by reserving a brand-new home in one of our new sites under construction on our campus. Please call our Sales Team at (207) 781-4460 for more information! To read our Priority Waiting List Agreement, click on “Request Brochure” at the top of this page, or click here.
What is the financial model for Independent Living at OceanView?
We retain ownership of all real estate. OceanView has an Entrance Fee that is 90% refundable as well as a Monthly Fee for each resident.
The Entrance Fee is a one-time payment made to move into OceanView and is common in senior-living communities that offer a maintenance-free lifestyle, access to services, and higher levels of care. This fee varies depending on the size and age of the apartment or cottage, number of rooms and bathrooms, and additional features (such as a view, fireplace, or balcony).
Our Entrance Fees start at $285,000 for a small one-bedroom apartment in the Main Lodge and start at $600,000 for a small cottage in the Classic Cottages.
The Monthly Fee pays for the community’s operational expenses and certain supportive services. For more information on our rates, click on “Request Brochure” at the top of this page, or click here.
