Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy takes on new life in Ambroise Thomas’s grand French opera, presented from Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu. With its sweeping drama and rich lyricism, this rarely performed masterpiece offers a powerful fusion of poetry, passion, and psychological depth.
In this acclaimed production, Simon Keenlyside delivers a riveting portrayal of the tormented prince, matched by the brilliant Natalie Dessay as the fragile, heartbreaking Ophélie—her mad scene a tour de force of vocal fireworks and emotional intensity.
