Independent Living vs Assisted Living: What’s the Difference?
Understanding the differences between types of senior living communities is essential when making decisions for your retirement, especially if you are considering a move. When it comes to independent living vs. assisted living, there are several key factors you’ll want to consider as you do your research. While there are wonderful benefits found in each type of senior living community, learn more about which could best meet your needs with our guide below!
What Is Independent Living?
Independent living is for seniors who are looking to live on their own but without taking on the burden of homeownership, making for a hassle-free and enjoyable retirement. It gives you the flexibility to do whatever it is you love in a community of like-minded individuals. With nearly endless enrichment opportunities and social events to take advantage of, you can truly live your retirement years to the fullest in an independent living community!
At OceanView, each of our independent living options is as unique as the individuals who live here, and all are designed to encourage an active lifestyle!

Some can include 2nd floor lofts and walk-out basements depending on your preferences, and all offer the luxury of gas fireplaces, 4-season sunrooms, and patios. They are run on cost and energy-saving solar electricity and have generators.
Whipple Farm – Speckled through this historic hillside property, you’ll find a unique neighborhood of spacious and customized housing. There are four basic floor plans to choose from, which can include sunrooms, basements, lofts, screened-in porches, gas fireplaces and more! Colonial-era architecture of these homes is made complete when surrounded by beautiful gardens and terraced rock walls.

What Is Assisted Living?
Assisted living integrates independence with custom support when and where it is needed, providing an additional level of personal care. This may include help with medication assistance, dressing, bathing, and so forth. With the added support in your everyday tasks, and three delicious meals each day, you’ll have more freedom to pursue your interests, socialize and live your life to the fullest.
It’s also very important to understand that assisted living is different from a nursing home. Individuals who reside in nursing homes typically have medical needs that require more hands-on daily care by medical professionals, where those who retire in an assisted living community still need some support but to a lesser degree.
