Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah speaks at the Dedication Ceremony for the Myron & Gladys Hager Fitness Pavilion.
We finally were able to hold a proper Dedication Ceremony for our new Myron & Gladys Hager Fitness Pavilion, featuring very special guest, Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah. After receiving a standing-ovation, Dr. Shah recounted his last visit to the community, which was back in March of 2020 when he hand-delivered personal protection equipment to our staff. “A year ago, it would have been difficult to imagine that people could be walking around here,” he said. “The reason they are able to do that, though, is because they have done the hard work of getting vaccinated.” In addressing concerns regarding the Covid-19 Delta variant, Dr. Shah said OceanView is fairly safe, having achieved 100 percent vaccination among both residents and staff.

In addition to Dr. Shah, the ceremony was attended by Maine State Senator Cathy Breen, State Representative Ed Crockett, and Falmouth Town Council Chair Amy Kuhn. OceanView Founder John Wasileski also addressed the gathering, reading remarks provided for the event by U.S. Representative Chellie Pingree.

Guests were then given a tour of the new, state-of-the-art Hager Fitness Pavilion, where they got to meet OceanView’s Fitness Team and watch resident fitness demonstrations. The 4,000-square-foot exercise facility is breaking perceptions of traditional senior fitness centers, with cutting-edge equipment normally found in collegiate gyms, such as a push sled with turf strip, as seen on football fields; a weight rack for squatting, deadlifting, bench and shoulder pressing; weight stacks and pulley machines, TRX suspension trainers, a bounce wall and floor, treadmills, recumbent bikes, ellipticals, rowers, and spin cycles.
“With our entire community now fully vaccinated, it was an honor to welcome Dr. Shah and all of our distinguished guests to OceanView,” said OceanView Director of Operations Diane Kibbin. “From the onset of the pandemic, we have worked closely with the Maine CDC and our local officials to prioritize the health and safety of our residents and staff. It is only fitting that they joined us for the dedication of our Hager Fitness Pavilion, which will help keep our residents active and healthy into the future.”
