While staying safe and sheltered in their homes, our residents are keeping busy in different ways, and some, quite creative. While we currently aren’t holding any parties or events, OceanView residents usually enjoy many of them throughout the year, with our team of talented chefs serving up delicious food and refreshments. Verna, one of our residents, collects cocktail napkins from these gatherings and turns them into beautiful decorative decoupaged eggs! Pictured here is her latest set, which was done just in time for Easter.
One of our resident woodworkers, Howard, hasn’t just been whittling away his time inside… he’s been hand carving cutting boards! Howard started with a beautiful piece of cherrywood that he cut into boards. He plots his designs first on chart paper, which he then traces to the wood to carve. After carving, the pieces are finished with a food-safe wood oil. Howard will be giving the boards as holiday gifts to his family.
Howard supplied one of our talented painters, Jane, with a bunch of little woodblocks for one of her projects. Jane took some paintings of hers that, in her opinion, were not her best, and cut them into little squares. She then applied these squares to the woodblocks to make puzzles!
While OceanView’s signature active and enriched lifestyle is looking different during this time, our staff has been finding creative ways to continue to provide services while maintaining safety. Our Activities department regularly distributes printed and digital packets with word games, coloring pages, jokes, recipes, and online entertainment resources of interest. Our Fitness department has been doing their best to help stave off cabin fever by leading exercises through online instructional videos. And our Dining Services continues to deliver (literally!) freshly prepared cuisine. From complementary coffee and muffins in the morning, to our Gazebo Grille Cafe’s lunchtime offerings, and gracious evening dinners brought right to their doorsteps – residents are able to stay safe and nourished. Last week, over 100 fresh Maine lobster rolls were delivered!
While physically apart during this time, the OceanView community remains as close, and creative, as ever.
