Several years before moving to OceanView, Tom and Alice sold their 45-foot sailboat, mostly because it was becoming difficult to find crew to sail with. He became interested in building a new type of boat after seeing a video. “It looked fairly easy to sail by myself, and could carry two or three other people. In his speech, OceanView’s owner, John Wasileski, said the design and technology going into the construction of this state-of-the-art facility will make it a wonderful new addition to the campus, but it ultimately will be the residents and the staff who use it that will make it special. “It’s always been the people of the OceanView community that make it what it is, not the bricks and mortar,” John reiterated. John’s son and OceanView’s Director of Development, Chris Wasileski, echoed his father’s words in recognizing the many people who have and will continue to be involved in the development of the building.

The flag and flagpole was generously donated by resident Mabel Gerquest, in memory of her husband Peter and all OceanView veterans who are no longer with us. A well- attended event was organized to celebrate this timely donation. With OceanView resident, Bill Gatchell as Master of Ceremonies, tributes and musical performances were enjoyed by a large crowd overlooking the Whipple Farmhouse and conservation land.

OceanView Yard Sale Raises $20,000!

If you’ve ever been to our Annual Yard Sale, you know it offers an impressive selection of items. This year’s Sale was no exception, including just about everything except a kitchen sink! There was also an assortment of resident-made baked goods and a variety of plants for purchase. A special preview event was held once again the Friday evening before the Saturday Sale, and with a $10 donation for admission, attendees received an OceanView tote bag, enjoyed elegant hors d’oeuvres, and got “first dibs” on sale items! OceanView resident Sally Dunning appeared last night on WCSH News Center’s “207” show to discuss iZosh, a non-profit she helped start in 2012. The organization raises money to help women in extreme poverty, who also have a business plan. Since it’s inception, iZosh has raised over $220,000.00 and helped over 622 women. The OceanView Annual Yard Sale is only a few weeks away, and has our resident volunteers buzzing like bees in preparation for this very popular spring event!

OceanView Resident Assistance Fund

As a community that cares deeply about its members, the residents of OceanView created The Resident Assistance Fund to help their fellow neighbors in need. With individual gifts and a variety of fundraising activities like the yard sale, this registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization continues to help residents on our campus. The events held also serve as an additional opportunity to bring residents together and foster community spirit.

Yard Sale Items
The yard sale gives residents an excellent opportunity to donate items they may no longer need. There is always an impressive assortment of jewelry, glass, china, antiques, furniture, art, frames, linens, toys, sports equipment, household items and more, with 100% of the profits going directly to the Fund. There will also be plants and fresh baked-goods for sale!
